Behind the scenes design tour one Michelin-starred Cyrus. Hear from Cyrus Chef and Partner, Douglas Keane, Nick Peyton, Owner and Maitre’d along with Andie Cochran of ACLA. Additional guests being confirmed! We’ll tour the space, hear about the ethos and process from Chef and the designers who worked on the project.
We’ll meet outside to learn about the history of the site. (Mark Jensen and Steve Oliver were the original architect and client). Olson Kundig was hired to do the renovations and ACLA mastered the landscape to suit the needs of the restaurant. From there we’ll move inside where Doug and Nick will take us on a journey describing the vision and dining experience.
Chefs recently published book, Culinary Leverage: A Journey Through the Heat, will also be available for purchase!
DOUGLAS KEANE, Chef/Partner, Cyrus
Born in Detroit, planted in Sonoma. Doug brought his midwest work ethic to San Francisco back in 1998. Along the way, he stopped at Cornell University for a degree in Hotel Management and in New York City where he earned his self-described “master’s degree” cooking in some of the finest restaurants in the world. A few years after landing in San Francisco he moved north to Sonoma County and quickly realized he had found his new home. He describes Sonoma County as the best place in the world to live and work. He values the honor of taking arguably the world’s greatest agricultural products, grown right here in Sonoma, and transforming them into a thoughtful meal to be enjoyed by his guests. He is eternally grateful for the deep support of the Cyrus investors who saw through the darkness of a worldwide pandemic and chose to support an ambitious project. Doug lives in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County.
ANDIE COCHRAN, Founder Architect, Andrea Cochran Landscape Architect
Andrea Cochran, FASLA, is the founder and principal of San Francisco based firm Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture (ACLA). A graduate of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, Cochran worked on the East Coast and in Europe before moving to California, where she has been practicing landscape architecture for over thirty years and where she founded ACLA in 1998.
Cochran’s work highlights the experiential qualities of the built environment across a diverse range of project types and scales through an emphasis on the craft of building and a thoughtful response to site conditions. Throughout Cochran’s work, a controlled palette of materials and vibrant plant life are composed with geometric clarity, creating a heightened sense of texture, light, and movement.
Andrea Cochran Landscape Architecture is internationally recognized and has won numerous awards. In 2014, Ms. Cochran was awarded the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award in Landscape Architecture and the American Society of Landscape Architects’ Design Medal. A monograph of her firm’s work was published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2009.
Andie has been a Healdsburg resident for over 20 years and her firm designed the Healdsburg Hotel, H2 and Harmon Guest house as well as the Cyrus Restaurant Landscape in Geyserville.
